Daughters of the North Shore

On a trip through northern Minnesota, I attended a rendezvous reenactment which was open to the public. I was taken with the sincerity and enthusiasm of the young Native American girls as they prepared for their part in the dance performance. The composition illustrates the dancers interaction and involvement with the older girl, who was mentoring the group. I kept the background simple, suggestive of a forest, but not distracting from the dancers.
