Canyon Shadows

As the sun begins its descent, the cast shadows of the canyon walls become long and deep. The daytime activity of birds, insects, rabbits, and lizards fades away and a hush falls over the area. Even the human visitors become quiet in appreciation of the spiritual nature of the desert at twilight. A lone hiker moves through the shadows on the canyon floor, with volcanic rock walls overhead. The rocks provided the inspiration for my series of canyon paintings, begun as a response to an immersion experience in the Mojave Desert in Southern California.
